High School Boys Program
Hour 1 – Situational Awareness, Knowledge Domain and Legal Use of Force
The first hour of this program involves the student learning about potentially dangerous situations and ways to avoid them. Students are taught about the four threat zones, confident demeanor, ways in which victims are chosen, the use of body language, use of intuition and predatory/prey behavior. Students will also be provided with common scenarios that they may face in real life such as elevators, public transportation, dating, stalking/being followed, distraction techniques and many more. The student will also be introduced to the importance of having a survival mindset. Students will also be introduced to the legal use of force as well as the legal, moral and ethical implications of their actions. Students will learn how to recognize the various levels of force that can be legally used to defend themselves in various situations. This is not a course on how to be a street thug or bully.
Hour 2 – Basic Defensive Tactics
Under stress the ability to use fine or coordinated motor skills, and cognitive functioning is greatly decreased. Students will be taught how to utilize their natural reflex response and gross motor movements to defend themselves in a danger situation. Students are also taught how to respond in the most effective and efficient manner using eye jabs, chin jabs, palm strikes, elbows, knees and basic kicks. The student will have the opportunity to practice these techniques which will include learning the attacker’s most vulnerable targets.
Hour 3 – Basic Holds
The student will learn how to escape the most common grabs, holds and chokes used by attackers. Additionally the student will learn how to defend against a forward and rear bear hug where they could be picked up and moved against their will. Students will be able to practice these defensive tactics against single and multiple attackers.
Hour 4 – Ground Survival
This is NOT a course in MMA, Brazilian Ju Jitsu or wrestling; sport and traditional martial arts training does not translate into the real, street involved situations. The ground is a dangerous place, unlike a gym floor with mats, or a sports ring, the ground is hard, unforgiving and full of potential weapons. The student will learn how to fall properly, protecting their head as they fall, how to defend against potential single and multiple attackers, being choked on the ground, and defending from the ground when the attacker is standing up. The student is taught what to do if they are knocked to the ground and how to get off the ground safely; the goal is to get off the ground in 5 seconds not to submit their attacker. On the street there is no ref and no tapping out.
Hour 5 – Knife Attack Self Defense
With the increase of knife attacks among youth, this hour will introduce the participant to the fundamental aspects of knife attacks and how to defend against them. The student will learn realistic ways to defend against sharp weapons. This course will not train the student to be a “knife fighter” but to provide real life training to best survive an altercation where a knife is involved. This is a basic, foundational skill development course that will prepare the student for surprise attacks, attacks with awareness and what to do if they have been attacked with a knife.
